As human beings, we experience emotions all day, every day. We wake up in the morning and are hit with our first wave of emotions. If you’re lucky, maybe that first emotion is gratitude for another day and all the blessings in your life.
As a working momma, I can recall many mornings that started very differently. I’m in the shower, my mind flooded with everything I have to do to get me and my son fed, lunches packed and out of the house on time, feeling totally stressed. Then, driving to work, someone cuts me off and I feel victimized or maybe angry and think (or maybe even shout) a few choice words at the vehicular perpetrator. When I get to work, someone has parked in my space and I drive around for ten minutes. Now I’m late for my morning team meeting. I feel embarrassed walking into the meeting as everyone turns to look at me. I wonder if I will be reprimanded by my boss.
Before 8:30, look at the potential number of emotions you can have and somehow this sets the tone for the entire day.
Now, I could craft a similar script that is full of joy and wonder from the time your foot hits the ground and you arrive to work. Unfortunately, for many, there is so much stress and overwhelm in their lives that the brain is shooting off countless negative thoughts and emotions throughout the day. When your head finally hits the pillow, exhausted and depleted, you might still not be able to turn it off, reviewing the events of the day and repeating the cycle of worrying about everything you have to do tomorrow.
Our human experience is full of emotions, some are really big and others we hardly notice at all. Emotions give our life meaning and color. Emotions and thoughts are energy (click on blog “Everything is Energy” to learn more). Sometimes, the energy of these emotions (usually negative) are intense enough that they can become trapped. A trapped emotion will always lodge somewhere in the body, usually in the trunk and can occur at any age. Wherever it lodges, it distorts the body’s normal energy field which causes imbalances in the body that can lead to a host of issues including emotional issues like depression and anxiety, inflammation, illness, pain, self-sabotage, and so much more.
For example, if you have a trapped emotion of anger, that energy vibration is part of us that can make us more prone to anger because part of your energy field is vibrating at the energy level of anger. The average 40 year old has hundreds, sometimes thousands of trapped emotions. It’s like an invisible net and we can feel like we are being held hostage by our emotions.
The good news is, when we release these trapped emotions, the body is allowed to return to it’s normal, healthy, undisturbed state. We often feel better physically, calmer emotionally and in control.
